Chronic Care Foundation, New Delhi, in partnership with The Hope Project Charitable Trust organised a health awareness campaign on chronic diseases on 25th October 2007. The "Wellness and Health (WAH) initiative was conveyed through a Magic Show at Nizamuddin Basti, New Delhi, where simple messages on Healthy Living, Nutrition, Hygiene and Sanitation and Chronic diseases were delivered to an audience from the predominantly Muslim "urban village" of Nizamuddin. The program was targeted to the marginalised labour population consisting of women, children and senior citizens.

The primary objective of the "WAH Magic Show" was to create awareness and introduce the local community to the subject of chronic diseases, its early detection, prevention, management and care. The Magic show was followed by a question and answer session with the audience where individual cases were attended to by Dr. Sanjana Sikri.

After the show 30 volunteers were screened for diabetes free of cost and abnormalities were detected in 15 cases. A follow up consultative camp was also organised on 29th October 2007 at the Hope Clinic, Nizamuddin where 14 cases were referred for further treatment.

This unique and innovative approach to creating awareness was appreciated and well received by the audience. The magic was performed by Mr. Mohamad Iqbal of "The Great Magic Show" and thrilled both young and old.
