Magic Show - New Seemapuri |
| Chronic Care Foundation has launched a very innovative campaign to spread awareness on chronic diseases among the disadvantaged sections of society. This campaign has its roots in the WAH “Wellness & Health” magic show. Through a series of magic tricks performed by magician Mohd. Iqbal, CCF spreads awareness amongst the community on the risk, care and management of chronic diseases through health and nutrition, hygiene and sanitation and by leading active lifestyles. The magic show attracts young and old alike and gives a cheerful appearance to a very serious topic. To keep the body in good health is a duty and “Wellness and Health (WAH)” Magic Show is one such event that was created by Chronic Care Foundation (CCF) to reach out people and spread awareness.
On Thursday, 20th December 2007, - CCF in partnership with Project Concern International (PCI/India) staged a Wellness and Health (WAH)” Magic Show to spread awareness on chronic diseases amongst the slum dwellers of the New Seemapuri. Through the magic show CCF disseminated simple messages on Healthy Living, Nutrition, Hygiene and Sanitation and Chronic diseases like diabetes, heart and kidney diseases. The event was attended by approximately 200 people mostly women and children.
The primary objective of the “WAH Magic Show” was to create awareness and introduce the local community to the subject of chronic diseases, its early detection, prevention, management and care. Dr. Vijay Kumar, the guest resource person also addressed the audience about different forms of chronic diseases and their risks, care management and effect.
Educational pamphlets and brochures were also distributed among the audience to promote healthy eating and healthy living.
Parallel to the event 40 volunteers were given free consultation by the doctor and screened for diabetes and kidney function test with a nominal fee of Rs. 20/=. A follow up consultative camp will held along with the test reports for further guidance and further referral for treatment of those affected.
This unique and innovative approach to creating awareness was a success and well received by all. The magic was performed by Mr. Mohamad Iqbal of “The Great Magic Show” and thrilled both young and old. |
