Chronic Care Foundation, New Delhi, in partnership with the “Project Concern International/India” organised a health awareness campaign on chronic diseases on 22nd November 2007 at New Seemapuri, Delhi. The initiative was conveyed through a “Wellness and Health (WAH)” Talk exclusively for a women group residing in the slum of New Seemapuri. The program was attended by 40 participants belonging to the rag-picking community who also work as domestic helpers, rag pickers or industrial workers.

The primary objective of the WAH Talk was to create awareness and introduce the participants to the subject of chronic diseases, its early detection, prevention, management and care. The aim was also to sensitise them to understand that how chronic diseases today are the common conditions that affect women and represent a significant health problem. 

Dr. Sanja Sikri was the lead facilitator for this campaign. She used few energizers to break the ice and make the participants feel free and comfortable during the session. Later, she discussed in detail about the chronic diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, kidney diseases and hypertension. She also discussed the current scenario of the diseases, as well as its social and economical impact.

The initiative was an opportunity for the women in the slum to come together, ventilate their feelings and share their concerns with a lady doctor and also get free medical consultation.
