Overview
According to World Health Organisation, Chronic diseases are diseases of long duration and generally slow progression.
To be more precise, chronic disease is a group of diseases, which exist for a long time-usually a lifetime.  But it is not caused by infection and is not passed on by contact.  Good thing about it is that it can be preventable, controlled, but may/not be cured.
Worldwide 60% of all deaths are due to chronic diseases.
80% of chronic disease deaths occur in low and middle income countries like India.
According to PWC-ASSOCHAM, chronic diseases in India accounts for 53% of all deaths.
The threat is growing – the number of people, families and communities afflicted is increasing
This growing threat is an under-appreciated cause of poverty and hinders the economic development of many countries
388 000 000 people will die in the next 10 years of chronic disease.
Some of the prevalent chronic diseases India includes:  asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and kidney diseases.  These are few of many chronic diseases which affects us all worldwide.

Alleviating Risks:
Yes! We can alleviate risk of chronic disease.  Everybody and each one of us has to take responsibility – Be Aware, Take Control & Take Charge.  The Chronic Care Foundation (CCF) recognizes that chronic disease prevention requires both individual effort and community support to successfully fight the rising epidemic of chronic disease in India.

Most important way to improve your health and the health of your family, workplace and community is to promote “Be Active!”
Across all age groups physical activity levels are declining.  To gain maximum health benefits we all need to be active.  Reduced or no physical activity can have serious health consequences, leading to chronic diseases and conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and obesity.
We all can enjoy the benefits of being physically active. There are many simple, enjoyable and inexpensive ways to increase your level of physical activity.
Regular physical activity can:
help prevent heart disease and stroke, type 2 diabetes, prostate and breast cancer
improve blood pressure, cholesterol levels
improve sleep, lowered stress and anxiety levels and reduced feelings of depression
Children and younger people can have maximum benefits from regular physical exercise:
it is a great way to have fun with friends and make new ones
can boost confidence and self esteem
helps improve fitness
can make bones and muscles stronger
can help maintain a healthy weight
reduces stress
