Leo Martis holds a B.S. in Chemical Technology from University of Mumbai; M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Ph.D. in Pharmacology, both from University of Washington in Seattle; and M.B.A. from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He is also board certified in toxicology by the American Board of Toxicology.

Dr Martis retired from Baxter Healthcare Corporation in April 2006 after 32 years of service. He held several technical and administrative positions at Baxter R & D, most recently as Vice President of Research and Baxter Distinguished Scientist. He is one of only four Baxter Scientists to hold the title of Distinguished Scientist, the highest recognition in technical or scientific disciplines one can attain at Baxter.

Dr Martis has over 70 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, 200 abstracts and presentations at national and international scientific conferences, three book chapters and 22 patents related to products for managing patients with chronic kidney disease.
