Professional Career
Currently the Managing Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group, overseeing the operations of 44 Hospitals, 51 Clinics and 400 Pharmacies of the Group in India and parts of Asia. The current employee strength of the Apollo group is 30,000. Joined the Apollo Hospitals Group as Joint Managing Director in the year 1989.
Major responsibilities include:
Overseeing the current operations of the Group through a network of a highly skilled team of professionals and reporting to the Board of Directors.
Planning, designing and funding new projects with the objective of directing the company towards optimal utilization of funds and resources.
Providing the policy guidelines for the efficient management of the Group’s Nursing Colleges (8 currently), the College of Physiotherapy and the College of Hospital Administration.
On the advisory Board of Med Varsity and the Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation.
Advisory role in the group’s other initiatives: Apollo Health Street - the medical business process outsourcing, Medical Insurance and Third Party Administration: DKV Insurance and Family Health Plan.

Key Contributions and path breaking strategies at Apollo
Introduced the concept of Tender Loving Care (TLC) which integrated service delivery with clinical outcomes resulting in exceptional patient experiences. First hospital chain in the country to have introduced this integration.

Provided the leadership role during the Group’s quality certification process with the ISO 14001 and 9001.

Spearheaded the JCI accreditation process in four Group Hospitals (Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad ,Ludhiana, Dhaka).

Largely instrumental in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai being rated “ Grade A” by CRISIL (one of India’s largest credit rating agency) and being one among the two hospitals in India to be awarded a “Grade A” for service and business excellence.

Introduced many innovative concepts aimed at ensuring uniformity in service delivery across all Apollo Institutions.

Plays a key role in the Group’s corporate social responsibilities including spearheading SACH (Save a Child’s Heart) aimed at providing economic succor to children from the economically under privileged sections of society. SACH has performed over 2000 free/concessional Cardiac surgeries and screened over 10,000 children from India and several parts of Africa.

Guides the various divisions of the group on infrastructure planning, layout and design concepts.

Advisory panel memberships and other credentials
Advisor and consultant in conjunction with the State Government for the reorganization of the disaster management programme in the city of Chennai.

First Women advisor on Healthcare to the government of India.

Member of the National Quality Council (NQC). The NQC provides the guidelines on minimum quality standards in Indian Hospitals.

Has been working very closely with associations like the CII, FICCI, FLO, ASSOCHAM and IAP Singapore on various healthcare issue.

Periodic Healthcare Management lectures in prestigious institutions across the globe.
