Dr Sanjay K. Agarwal is Graduate and Postgraduate from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow. He completed his Nephrology training from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, where he is faculty since 1989.

Dr. Agarwal had held important position in various administrative bodies in the country few of which are: Chairman of Technical Advisory Committee for Nephrology and Related equipments, Department of Critical Care, Institute of Liver and Biliary Disease, New Delhi; Member, Committee for making guidelines and course material for Training of Renal Transplant Surgeons in India; Member, Expert committee to make “guidelines for inspection of hospitals for their registration for renal transplantation” under THOA 2008 and Member of committee for “monitoring and preparation of curriculum to train doctors for standalone dialysis units” under the healthcare delivery system of Government of India. |
He had been conferred with prestigious orations like Dr. Hari Vaishnav Oration-2009 on CKD, by API; Dr. LK Bhutani Oration-2009 by AIIMS on Renal Transplantation, JM Patel Oration- 2008 by ISOT on Immunosuppression and Renal Transplant, Khullar Oration-2006 by ISN on TB in Renal replacement Therapy, Senior Hoechst Lectureship-1999 on Diabetes by API and ‘BC Bansal Oration-1998” by ISN on Hepatotropic Viral Infection in ESRD. Dr. Agarwal is honoured by many fellowships, to name a few - American Society of Nephrology-2009, National Academy of Medical Sciences-2008, Royal College of Physician (Edinburgh)-2007, Indian Society of Nephrology-2000, International Medical Science Academy-1999 and Membership of National Academy of Medical Sciences-1999. |
Dr. Agarwal had been invited in various capacities in important groups and organizations like, Member of International Renal Care Group, Expert for ICMR-WHO Workshop on “Mapping Pattern of Diabetes in India”; “Country Leader for Transplantation” by the Transplantation Society (TTS) since 2006 to represent India during KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcome), nominated by Government of India as Country representative as Nephrologist for a regional meeting of SEARO region on WHO guiding principles for organ transplantation; Member of “Advisory Group for the Registry of People with Diabetes at Young Age” initiated by ICMR, New Delhi. |
He has been member of Hospital Ethical Committee, AIIMS, Member of Ethics committee for Central Council for Research in Homeopathy since 2005; Member of core committee for SRB Centre for Clinical Pharmacology at AIIMS and Member of Medical Death review Committee of the AIIMS. He is also member of Telemedicine Committee and stem cell facility of AIIMS. |
Dr. Agarwal is regular reviewer for the manuscripts for many international and national journals and has 150 publications to his credit both in national and international journals. He reviewed the book titled “Kidney Diseases in the Developing World and Ethnic Minorities” Meguid El Nahas (ed) Taylor and Francis, 2005 for New England Journal of Medicine. He had served as Guest Editor for the symposium on “Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease” for Journal of IMSA. |
He has accomplished 23 clinical trials as principal investigator and regularly conducted patient’s education program in various print and electronic media and radio talks. He is associate editor of Indian Journal of Transplantation and Indian Journal of Nephrology and Member of editorial board of ‘Nephro Navigator’ and ‘Nephron Clinical Practice’. For the general public, he has authored three booklets, ‘Living with Kidney Failure’, ‘Transplantation-a gift of life’ and ‘Your guide to Kidney and Kidney Failure’. |
| Dr. Agarwal is member of 25 national and international Scientific Societies. He is member of various national societies like Indian Society of Nephrology, Indian Society of Organ Transplantation, Indian Academy of Nephrology, Northern Chapter of Indian Society of Nephrology and Delhi Nephrology Society in different capacity. |
